B.T.R. – Zašto? / S-r, 2014 / CD / heavy metal, hard rock / Bulgaria
Zamolio sam poznatog bugarskog novinara, urednika nekoliko radijskih i TV muzičkih emisija, Vaska Gromkova, da mi predloži za upoznavanje neki dobar bugarski rock bend – bez razmišljanja mi je rekao tri imena – jedno od njih je bend imena B.T.R.. Stupio sam u kontakt sa njima i ubrzo – na raspolaganju
sam imao press materijal, kao i muziku sa njihovog najnovijeg albuma, “Zašto?”.
B.T.R. je bend iz glavnog grada Bugarske, iz Sofije. Nastajao je periodu 1984-86. U ranim godinama njegovog postojanja skoro trideset muzičara je prošlo kroz bend. Prvi studijski album (“Bending the Rules”, 1993.) snimila je postava: Hristo Angov (vokali), Valentine Guevski (gitara), Kiril Božkov (gitara), Ivan Kalfov (bass), Georgi Milev (bubnjevi). Slijedile su promjene članstva, novi albumi, velike turneje, još veći uspjesi. Njihovi albumi spadali su među najprodavanije u Bugarskoj. Trenutnu postavu benda B.T.R. čine: Atanas “Nasko” Penev (vokali), Slavčo Nickolov (vokali i gitare), Ivan Kalfov (vokali i bass gitara), Ilian Dikov (bubnjevi), Kiril Božkov (gitare).

Album “Zašto?” (Why?), njihovo je jedanaesto albumsko izdanje. Album sadrži 10 autorskih kompozicija pjevanih na bugarskom jeziku. Uz osnovnu postavu, na snimanju su učestvovali i mnogobrojni muzičari koji su upotpunili i obogatili ionako moćan zvuk ovog benda. Sve kompozicije su na visokom umjetničkom nivou. To je i normalno za bend ovolikog iskustva i za muzičare ovolikog kalibra.
Bugarska muzička scena, kao i muzička scena svih zemalja “iza gvozdene zavjese” pati od zajedničke bolesti. To je ugledanje na engleske / američke muzičke vrijednosti. Na muzičkom planu, što se tiče umijeća sviranja, pojevanja, produkcije… skoro da su ti uzori dostignuti. Ono što se nikada nije desilo – bendovi iz zemalja “iza gvozdene zavjese” nikada nisu uspjeli biti trend setteri. Uvijek su bili nekoliko koraka iza svojih uzora. Malo ih je koji su krenuli svojim putem, ali i ti su uspjeh polučili samo na lokalnom nivou.
B.T.R. ne treba kriviti što idu “na sigurno”. Mnogo je bendova koji se drže tog pravca. I u tom muzičkom okruženju, treba dati sve od sebe, biti vrhunski muzičar, izvoditi kvalitetnu muziku. B.T.R. su u tome 100% uspjeli.
I asked the famous Bulgarian journalist, editor of several radio and TV music shows, Vasko Gromkov, that he propose for meeting some good Bulgarian rock band – without thinking he told me three names – one of them was the band named B.T.R.. I got in touch with them and soon – available I had the press material, as well as music from their latest album, “Why?”.
B.T.R. is the band from the capital of Bulgaria, Sofia. Slowly developed during 1984-86. In the early years of its existence nearly thirty musicians passed through the band. The first studio album (“Bending the Rules”, 1993) recorded the setup: Hristo Angov (vocals), Guevski Valentine (guitar), Kiril Božkov (guitar), John Kalfov (bass), Georgi Milev (drums). Followed some changes in membership, new albums, big tours, even greater successes. Their albums were included aming the top-selling in Bulgaria. The current lineup of B.T.R. makes: Atanas “Nasko” Penev (vocals), Slavčo Nickolov (vocals and guitar), Ivan Kalfov (vocals and bass guitar), Ilian Dikov (drums), Kiril Božkov (guitar).

Album “Zašto?” (Why?), is their eleventh edition of albums. The album contains 10 original compositions sung in Bulgarian. Beside the basic setting, the recording was attended by numerous musicians who complemented and enhanced the already powerful sound of this band. All compositions are at a high artistic level. It is normal for such band of large experience and for such a large-caliber musicians.
Bulgaria music scene, as well as the music scene of all countries “behind the iron curtain” is suffering from common disease. It’s a cue from the English / American musical values. On the musical level, as far as the art of playing, singing, production … almost that these models were achieved. What never happened – bands from countries “behind the Iron Curtain” never failed to be trend setters. They were always a few steps behind their idols. Few went their own way, but they have successed only at the local level.
B.T.R. have not to be blamed as they accepted to undergon their career “on safe”. There are many bands that held that direction. And in such musical environment, bands should do their best – to be a top musicians, perform quality music… B.T.R. did it 100% successfuly.
