Fernwood je više puta nagrađivani akustični instrumentalni duo iz Malibua, California, USA, a čine ga Gayle Ellett (Djam Karet) i Todd Montgomery. Svaki od njih dvojice svira po oko 20 raznih muzičkih instrumenata. Svoju muziku prave u vlastitom studiju. Teže ka prirodnom zvuku i nastoje izbjeći svaki vid kompresije tona ili kompjuterske manipulacije istim. Svoja bogata muzička i životna iskustva pretaču u svoju muziku. Bogatstvo raznih instrumenata daje im mogućnost da zvuče raznovrsno. U njihovoj muzici isprepliču se uticaju tradicionalne američke muzike, irske muzike, istočno europske muzike, azijske muzike i muzike Srednjeg Istoka. Tako su kreirali hibrid koji im daje jedinstveni karakter i prepoznatljivost.
Fernwood (Gayle Ellett i Todd Montgomery) do sada su snimili četiri albuma – “Almeria” (2008) ; “Sangita” (2009) ; “Fernwood Compilation CD with Al Di Meola” (2009) i aktuelno izdanje, “Arcadia” (2015).
Dešavalo mi se da dođem na neki koncert, sagledam prostor kluba, prisutnu publiku, atmosferu, (ponekad i silom prilika) odslušam support band, dočekam headlinere, oni počnu svoj program i odem kući nakon 2 njihove pjesme. Ni u kom slučaju ne zato što su oni loši, ne. Razlog mog odlaska je saznanje da oni te večeri ništa novo neće ponuditi. Unaprijed mi je sve poznato.
Kada, međutim, u CD player stavite album “Arcadia”, on vas od prvog tona polako uvlači u svoju priču. U svakom salučaju, slušate ga, ne odustajete i pitate se – što će ponuditi u nastavku. On, u nastavku, nudi mnogo – muziku bogatu melodijom, raznih ritmova, bogatu harmonijama. Radi se o instrumentalima koji nude pregršt “slika”. Na vama je da se predate vašoj mašti, a slike će vam same promicati u vašim mislima.
Iako je riječ o dva umjetnika, svirača, imate utisak da vam svira orkestar. Razni instrumenti se smjenjuju, svaki priča svoju priču. Pjesme su stilski raznovrsne, ali iste atmosfere. Ta atmosfera i jeste kohezioni faktor ovog albuma. Pjesme završavaju u fade out modu… uhvatite sebe u želji da ponovite netom odslušanu temu. To već dosta govori o toj muzici.
Album “Arcadia” lično mi je i samoinicijativno poslao Mr. Gayle Ellett (Topanga, CA, USA). Još uvijek sam u čudu, zašto je to učinio uredniku “tamo neke” Barikade, zašto mu je to bilo bitno… ne mogu skriti radost da je on to, ipak, učinio. Ne bih sada ovaj lijepi momenat kvario odnosima prema medijima “zvijezda” sa ovdašnjih prostora. Kako neki od njih vide PR… možete to i sami naslutiti.
Album “Arcadia”, dueta Fernwood (Gayle Ellett i Todd Montgomery) ima moju apsolutnu preporuku.

Fernwood, many times award-winning acoustic instrumental duo from Malibu, California, USA, is consisted of Gayle Ellett (Djam Karet) and Todd Montgomery. Each of the two of them is playing at about 20 different musical instruments. Their music is made in their own studio. They strive for natural sound and try to avoid any form of compression tons or computer manipulation of the same. Their rich musical and life experiences are poured into their music. The wealth of different instruments gives them the possibility that the sound varied. In their music weaves the influence of traditional American music, Irish music, Eastern European music, Asian music and music of the Middle East. So, they created a hybrid that gives them a unique character and identity.
Fernwood (Gayle Ellett and Todd Montgomery) has recorded four albums, so far – “Almeria” (2008); “Sangita” (2009); “Fernwood Compilation CD with Al Di Meola” (2009) and current issue, “Arcadia” (2015).
It happened to me to come to some concert, perceive the space club, the audience, the atmosphere, (sometimes by force of circumstances) listen to support band, wait headliners, they start their program and I go home after two of their songs. In no case, not because they are so bad, not a way. The reason for my departure is the knowledge that evening they will not offer anything new. In advance I know it well.
When, however, in the CD player you put the album “Arcadia”, from the first tone he will creep you into its story. In any casec, you are going to listening it, you will not give up and you will ask yourself – what will this album offers below. Album, below, offers a lot – music rich with melody, different rhythms, rich with different harmonies. This music is played on instruments that with its sounds offer a variety of “images”. It is up to you to surrender your imagination and picture will promote itself in your mind.
Although these are two artists, musicians, you have the impression that whole orchestra is playing. Various instruments take turns, each tells its own story. The songs are stylish variety, but the atmosphere is the same. This atmosphere is the cohesive factor of this album. The song ends in fade out mode… but you find yourself wanting to repeat the recently finished theme. It already says a lot about the music.
Album “Arcadia” has been sent to me, by personally initiative by Mr. Gayle Ellett (Topanga, CA, USA). I’m still in wonder, why he did it to the editor of “there some” Barikada, why it was importance to him… I can not hide the joy that he did it so. I would not like to spoil this beautiful moment with examples the relations with media by the local area “stars”. As some of them see the PR, you can themselves suggest.
Album “Arcadia”, duets Fernwood (Gayle Ellett and Todd Montgomery) has my absolute positive recommendations.
