EDMUND – Freindschoft / Karmarama, 2018 / CD, dig / pop, rock / Austria
Dvojica muzičara, Markus Kadensky i Roman Messner, poznaju se više od desetljeća. Prva muzičku suradnju ostvarili su 2018. godine. Slučajno. Nakon kratkog jam sessiona u kojem su jedan drugome svirali svoje najnovije pjesme, obojici je bilo jasno: vokalno su usklađeni, gitare odlično funkcionišu i… duet Edmund (EDM&) je bio rođen!
Oduševljeni već postojećim materijalom, njih dvojica su nadopunili materijal novim pjesmama upotpunivši ga međusobnim idejama. Rezultat tog rada je album, “Freindschoft“, koji je predmetom ove recenzije. Edmund je muzički projekt koji želi ostati stvaran i bez nepotrebnog elektronskog udjela. Iza dvojca Edmund stoji redatelj i dizajner, Michael Malyj.

The two musicians, Markus Kadensky and Roman Messner, have known each other for more than a decade. The first musical collaboration was achieved in 2018. By accident. After a brief jam session in which they played each other’s latest songs, it was clear to both of them: the vocals were harmonized, the guitars work was great and … the duet Edmund (EDM&) was born!
Delighted by the already existing material, the two complemented the material with new songs, complementing it with ideas from one another. The result of this work is the album, “Freindschoft“, which is the subject of this review. Edmund is a musical project that wants to stay real and without unnecessary electronic share. Behind Edmund stands the director and designer, Michael Malyj.

Slučano sam na YouTube kanalu naišao na pjesmu “Freindschoft“, izvođač Edmund (broj pregleda je odavno premašio brojku od 6 miliona). Malo sam se više raspitao i pronašao informaciju da se radi o dvojcu iz Austrije. Nije trebalo mnogo – molba da mi pošalju svoj CD je odmah prihvaćena i realizirana. CD je u mojim rukama. CD sadrži jedanaest pjesama, od kojih su se kao hitovi, u prvi mah, izdvojile pjesme – naslovna, “Freindschoft“, zatim “Lebmsgfüh” i “Rondstah“, a kasnije su im se “pridružile” još neke od pjesama sa ovog albuma.
Gledajući naslove pjesama (spisak je dat dole), slušajući ih, primjetio sam čudan način na koji su naslovi pisani, pjesme pjevane. Ni prvo ni drugo se nije “uklapalo” u njemački jezik koji sam učio u školi. Naknadno su mi članovi dueta Edmund objasnili da oni pjevaju na njemačkom jeziku uz austrijski dijalekt. Tako da je naslov pjesme “Freindschoft“, na njemačkom “Freundschaft“… Neka svatko pjeva kako hoće, meni to ne smeta.
Markus i Roman pjevaju u dva glasa, na način kako su to radili Simon & Garfunkel. Radi se o autorskim i melodičnim pjesmama sa naglašenom gitarskom pratnjom. Naravno, pratnju im daju još neki muzičari – čuju se klavijature, gudači, bass i bubnjevi – nažalost, njihova imena se ne pominju.
Edmund su veoma popularni na austrijskoj muzičkoj sceni. Turneja najavljena za decembar 2019. godine već je rasprodana za sve dogovorene nastupe. Taj dvojac, pojačan pratnjom, uživo, ima više naglašen rock zvuk nego je to istaknuto na ovom izdanju. Uglavnom, prateći ih kroz razne video zapise, vidio sam pune dvorane, a publika ih prati zajedničkim pjevanjem. Taj status je zaslužen, ali i odraz kvalitete koju taj dvojac posjeduje.
I accidentally came across the song “Freindschoft” by Edmund on the YouTube channel (the number of views has long exceeded 6 million). I inquired a bit more and found information that it was a couple from Austria. It didn’t take long – the request to send me their CD was immediately accepted and realized. The CD is in my hands. The CD contains eleven songs, of which the hits, at first, were the songs – the title track, “Freindschoft“, then “Lebmsgfüh” and “Rondstah“, and later they were joined by some other of the songs from this album.
Looking at the titles of the songs (the list is given below), listening to them, I noticed the strange way the titles were written, the songs sung. Neither the first nor the second “fit” in the German language I learned in school. Subsequently, Edmund members explained to me that they were singing in German with the Austrian dialect. So the title of the song “Freindschoft“, in German is “Freundschaft“… Let everyone sing as they please, I don’t mind.
Markus and Roman sing in two voices, the way Simon & Garfunkel did. These are author’s and melodic songs with a pronounced guitar accompaniment. Of course, they are accompanied by some other musicians – can be heard – keyboards, strings, bass and drums are heard – unfortunately their names are not mentioned.
Edmund is very popular act on the Austrian music scene. The tour announced for December 2019 has already sold out for all the scheduled performances. The duo, enhanced by the accompaniment, live, has a more pronounced rock sound than highlighted on this release. Basically, following them through various videos, I saw full halls, and the audience followed them by singing together. That status is well deserved, but also a reflection of the quality that these two
possess.
